Due to some misinformation, The Scuba News Canada recently posted that Stan Waterman had died. We would like to publicly apologize to Stan for reporting his death when he is still alive.
It was Chuck Nicklin, a dive industry pioneer and International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame member, who recently passed at the age of 95.
Stan Waterman
Stan Waterman (born April 5, 1923) is a five-time Emmy-winning cinematographer and producer of underwater films. Waterman was the subject of The Man Who Loves Sharks, a Discovery Channel biographical special. He won the first father-son Emmy for the National Geographic Explorer production Dancing With Stingrays, which he co-created with his son.
Television credits include The American Sportsman (1965), The Bermuda Depths (1978), and The Explorers (1973), as well as film credits such as The Deep (1977) and Jaws of Death (1979).
He received five Emmy nominations for his work on underwater films and television shows.
Chuck Nicklin
Chuck’s involvement in the diving community spans decades. He is perhaps best known in underwater cinematography for his work on various James Bond films, as well as The Abyss and The Deep. In addition to the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society and the San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition, the California native co-founded several iconic institutions.
