In an effort to align its Enriched Air Nitrox course with diver objectives and goals, Professional Scuba Schools Worldwide has updated its NITROX e-learning programs.
PSS now has two NITROX/EANx recreational courses. The PSS NITROX/EANx Diver EVO is designed as a three-module entry level course for divers who wish to safely plan and use enriched air nitrox up to 40% in accordance with ISO 11107 and RSTC EANx standards. The PSS Experienced NITROX/EANx Diver EVO is a more comprehensive and in-depth, six-module, course designed for those who wish to simply know more about the behavior of gases or progress to PSS Leadership levels.
“The original PSS NITROX/EANx course was one of the most detailed and complete courses in the industry,” said Stefano Ruia, Director of Training and International Business Development, PSS Worldwide. “We recognized that much of the information in the course was simply too advanced for recreational divers who simply wanted the ability to learn how to safely plan and dive using the gas.”
PSS is renowned for its EVO training management system and flipped teaching concept. The new PSS NITROX/EANx Diver EVO focuses on and requires demonstrated knowledge in use and calibration of an oxygen analyzer, completion of the EANx cylinder content label, properly setting a dive computer for a specific EANx mix, determining Maximum Operative Depth for a NITROX mix, and completion of the fill station log.
In accordance with ISO 11107 and RSTC Enriched Air Nitrox standards open water dives using EANx mix are not a requirement to complete the new PSS Nitrox/EANx Diver or Junior Nitrox/EANx Diver course. If made, every student must use an EANx dive computer during the open water dives.
In addition to meeting all requirements of the entry-level course, the PSS Experienced NITROX/EANx EVO involves a minimum of two open water dives and hands-on evaluation and assessment related to understanding impacts and effects of oxygen toxicity and behavior of gases at depth.
“In essence our Experienced NITROX/EANx course is an updated version of our original course,” added Ruia. “It represents the level of knowledge and skill for NITROX/EANx use that we expect for our dive leaders.”
PSS continues to offer its NITROX/EANx and Experienced NITROX/EANx EVOs, including certifications, free of charge to PSS Affiliates and Dive Leaders for issuance to PSS trained divers.
PSS is actively seeking scuba diving leaders to join their growing ranks in North America and the Caribbean. Any current RSTC certified instructor can register for a PSS crossover by completing the registration form located at https://www.pssworldwide.org/en/registrazioneXOver.aspx.
Once registered, a PSS Course Director will contact candidates to discuss and plan next steps for crossover completion.
